International and Spiritual, Moral Social andCultural (SMSC)

I have great pleasure in welcoming you to our International Portal. Since the founding of the school ten years ago, we have been involved in many international activities, receiving delegations from South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, France, Germany, Latvia, Denmark and The United States of America.

We organise annual educational visits and sports tours for our learners to many countries and they always look forward to going on these visits. I believe that their personal and social development through school visits is very important. They have the opportunity of practicing their communication and interpersonal skills. On sports tours they compete with each other as well as with the local learners.

Our learners are always excited by the range of experiences they are offered and exposed to when they go on these visits. They enjoy living in a foreign culture, even though this may be for a short while. They find time to get to know each other. Away from the school environment, they engage and forge stronger relationships with their teachers and come back with a host of valuable memories which will last a long time.
 
On two occasions we have won the International School Award (ISA) for outstanding development of the international dimension in the curriculum. This year, we have subscribed to The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF). We will be embedding the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) into our curriculum to enable us to recognise their importance in everyone’s lives along with respecting each other.
We have a partner school in China – Wuxi Quang Qing Middle School. Our aim is being able to organise exchange visits for both teachers and learners in the future. We also plan an after-school club where our learners will be taught Mandarin. 
Even after four years of our multilateral partnership, we are still in contact with our Comenius schools (France, Denmark, Germany and Latvia) and, in March, will be receiving a Danish delegation consisting of twenty two trainee teachers of English with their lecturer Mrs. Hanne Thomsen. 
 
During our annual International Week celebrations in July, our learners have enjoyed activities such as African drumming, Chinese fan dancing and calligraphy and Bollywood dancing. This year’s celebrations will take place from Monday 9th – Friday 13th July. Our main activity will be a Zumba Workshop for our year 7 learners to enjoy.
I have appointed two sixth form students as International and Diversity Ambassadors and they will be working collaboratively with me. They will have an outstanding commitment and ability, as young leaders, to promote HACH’s international and diversity values and, when necessary, will represent the Academy in diverse ways.
