ASDAN Employability Skills

What is the ASDAN Employability qualification?

This qualification offers a range of opportunities for learners to develop their personal and employability skills, while gaining a national qualification approved by Ofqual, DCELLS and CCEA.

The lessons are delivered as part of our Internship Programme in Year 10 which offers student the opportunity to experience the world of work over the course of two terms with placements taking place on Fridays .  The third term comprises the employability lessons which are designed to underpin what is learned in the work place and help students understand what employers are looking for and what they need to do to achieve their goals. They also include enterprise days and visits to and from local employers and businesses.

What do the qualifications involve?

The qualification is achieved by learners completing selected units.  Each unit has a credit value of 1, 2 or 3.  Learners can achieve the ASDAN Certificate in Employability Skills by achieving 13 credits in total.

How are the qualification assessed?

Learners demonstrate their competence in each unit by creating a Portfolio of Evidence from their work-related activities and experiences. The portfolio must contain evidence that clearly meets the standards. The qualification, if achieved, is equivalent to a grade B GCSE.

Which Units are currently being studied in these classes?

What is the value of the Employability qualification?

Learners should be in a better position to ‘sell themselves’ to potential employers by demonstrating and owning a range of skills and qualities that employers look for. The qualification has national approval in the UK, and has been endorsed by the Sector Skills Council.

At the Academy, we believe that our innovative mix of work related learning opportunities within our Internship and Employability Skills programme will compliment the academic achievements gained by our students and give them ‘all round’ education required to achieve their career goals.
