Students continue with their subject from year 10 but may supplement these studies with further GCSEs which can be studied on one year or with additional study time for their existing subjects.

One Year Courses - GCSE or equivalent
R.E. is a one-year GCSE course during which students will reflect on both moral and philosophical issues, such as euthanasia, crime and punishment and the problem of evil.
It is assessed by two terminal examinations at the end of Year Eleven.
Grades achievable range from A*-G
The principle aim of this one-year course is to increase students’ awareness of the role that accurate statistical representations, calculations, reasoning and interpretation can play in their lives. It is particularly suitable for students who enjoy and have been successful in Mathematics at GCSE level.
There is a small coursework component, along with a terminal examination.
A minimum of a B grade in GCSE Maths is required in order to select this course due to the extensive Maths content. It is suitable for Fast track Mathematicians who are completing GCSE Maths in Year 10.
GCSE ICT will qualify pupils to operate confidently in today’s digital world. It doesn’t teach how computers work or how to program them, but it does show how to use ICT effectively and safely. This is vital for young people in today’s global job market. The course is 60% Controlled Assessment and 40% exam. This is a challenging yet rewarding qualification that will help in further education and career progression. This will be x2 lesson.
Business Studies BTEC is a one year option for students who do not achieve a grade C or above in the GCSE examinations. It is a course that leads to the equivalent of a GCSE qualification. Students for whom this course is suitable will be advised during their options meeting.
Additional study time for existing subjects
Art and Textiles Support
It is strongly advised that all students taking Art and/or Textiles GCSE should take an extra lesson in Year Eleven to enable them to spend more time completing the substantial practical, research and design elements of these courses.
All students taking Applied GCSE Business Studies will automatically continue with Business Studies as one of their options next year and convert the GCSE into a double award.
Students who are achieving well can take Business as an extra option and then convert it to a double GCSE.
This lesson is aimed at any student studying Science who feels they may need additional time to focus on internal assessments and examination preparation.
This additional History lesson is for any student who feels they will require additional time to dedicate to the significant demands of this subject. History is 75% exam and 25% Controlled Assessment thus this lesson will be very helpful in enabling students to juggle the demands of internal deadlines and examination preparation.
This additional Geography lesson is for any student who feels they will require additional time to dedicate to the significant demands of this subject. Geography is 75% exam and 25% Controlled Assessment thus this lesson will be very helpful in enabling students to juggle the demands of internal deadlines and examination preparation.
With the demands of speaking and listening, reading and writing in MFL subjects an extra support lesson will be beneficial for those students who want to achieve well in their choice of Modern Foreign Language.
Mathematics AS level
This option is for fast track Mathematicians who have completed their GCSE in Year 10 and achieved a minimum of an A grade. The aim will be to prepare students to sit the AS exams at the end of Year 11 where possible.
This lesson offers students an opportunity to further develop their English skills in a small group setting. Students for whom this course is suitable will be advised during their options meeting.
