Subjects studied in key stage 3
Years 7 to 9 are generally referred to as 'key stage 3.'
The DfE lays out various subjects which are compulsory in key stage 3. These are non GCSE subjects.
At the Academy students can also commence GCSE subjects in year 9.
For details of these subjects please3 go to our 'subjects studied in year 9' page.
Three of the non GCSE compulsory subjects are called the 'core subjects' and comprise English, Maths and Science.
The content of these core subjects can be found using the links below or can be downloaded as a pdf using the links to the right.
'Topic' in Year 7
In the Academy students in year 7 study Humanities subjects integrated into themes. This means that Geography, History, Citizenship and some elements of Religious Education, Citizenship and PSHE are combined into holistic themes which puts each individual subject into context and shows their interelatedness. Literacy is also delivered like this in Year 7. These lessons are called 'Topic' on the timetable. The overall content plan for these lessons can be found using the link below or on the right. Further details of these lessons can be accessed by contacting email@example.com
Literacy and Numeracy intervention in Year 7
The Academy provides a strong intervention plan for pupils who arrive at the Academy with low reading, writing and numeracy skills. This partly funded by a 'Catchup Premium' provided by the Government. Details of this plan can be seen using the link below or to the right. Further details of these plans can be accessed by contacting firstname.lastname@example.org
