Entry Requirements
An average Attainment 8 score of 5.5 as well as a Grade 5 in English Language or Literature and Grade 5 in Maths. A GCSE B Grade is also required in the specific Product Design Subject or Art. Candidates will also be required to bring a portfolio of their work to a consultation meeting.
What is Product Design?
This creative and thought-provoking qualification gives students the practical skills, theoretical knowledge and confidence to succeed in a number of careers. Especially those in the creative industries.
They will investigate historical, social, cultural, environmental and economic influences on design and technology, whilst enjoying opportunities to put their learning in to practice by producing prototypes of their choice.
Students will gain a real understanding of what it means to be a designer, alongside the knowledge and skills sought by higher education and employers.
Design and Make Project: This will make up 50% of your final grade. You will develop your own project brief to design, make and evaluate a high quality and challenging product of your choice. You will experiment with a range of modelling and manufacturing techniques to produce their final model.
Core & Resistant Materials: You learn about a range of topics relevant to the world of Product Design and also learn to market new products with detailed study of materials and components.
