Mathematics A Level
The work in the attached booklet will require a better understanding of the topics you’ve gone through in your GCSE Mathematics lessons. You will be required to read and research on some mathematics topics in order to answer some of these questions.
It is important that you do not procrastinate but make sure you start thinking through and answering these questions. There is more reasoning questions and you need to have a good understanding of why you are solving these questions in a particular manner. You do have the whole of the Summer Holidays to ensure that all the questions are answered satisfactorily and that you are ready to start your course in September. Please ensure all the mathematical questions is completed in this time frame and handed to your teacher in your first mathematics lesson in September.
Almost all of the topics should have been covered on your GCSE Mathematics course. Some questions here may be slightly harder than ones you have seen before, but you should – with a little perseverance and determination – be able to answer them. If you get stuck, try looking at www.examsolutions.net; www.mathsgenie.co.uk/newalevel.html; and www.tes.com; or other resources for some guidance on the topics in question: Algebraic expressions and equations, Inequalities, Indices, Discriminants, Modelling with quadratics, Straight Line graphs and Graphs and Transformations. You will be tested in the month of September on the first four chapters which is made into power points for you to get acquainted with in the summer. The Power points are attached.
