Entry Requirements

An average Attainment 8 score of 5.5 as well as a Grade 5 in English Language or Literature and GCSE Grade 6 in Art. Candidates will also be required to bring a portfolio of their work to a consultation meeting.

This course is for those who are looking to extend their knowledge of Art beyond GCSE Level.

A Level Course Content

The new A-level course is made up of two components; the Personal Investigation and an Externally Set assignment.

Component 1 – Personal Investigation

The ‘personal investigation’ will allow you to explore in depth a theme, concept or idea of your choice. You will research relevant artists, craftspeople and designers and use this understanding to develop your own practical work. Your practical exploration will be supported by written work that documents how your ideas are informed by contextual and other sources, demonstrating analytical and critical understanding.

Component 2 – Externally Set Assignment

You will be given a choice of starting point to develop which culminates in a 15 hour supervised session. Throughout the assignment you will be given the opportunity to develop your work in response to your starting point. You will be assessed on your ability to work independently and develop a personal, meaningful response.

Component 1: Personal Investigation 60%

Component 2: Externally Set Assignment 40%

Exam Board: AQA
