Entry Requirements

An average Attainment 8 score of 5.5 as well as a Grade 5 in English Language or Literature. Other requirements include a GCSE Grade 6 in PE, or Distinction in PE BTEC. Candidates are also required to have a GCSE Grade 6 in Core or Additional Science or Biology. Alongside this they must also be actively involved in sport outside of the academy.

How will you be assessed?

Unit 1: Unit 1: (30% of final grade) Physiology Factors that affect performance – 90 marks – 2 hour externally assessed examination.

  • Applied anatomy and physiology
  • Exercise physiology
  • Biomechanics

Unit 2: (20% of final grade) Psychological factors affecting performance – 60 marks – 1 hour externally assessed examination.

Units Studied

  • Skill acquisition
  • Sports psychology

Unit 3: (20% of final grade) Socio-cultural issues in physical activity and sport – 60 marks – 1 hour externally assessed examination

Units Studied

  • Sport and society
  • Contemporary issues in physical activity and sport

Unit 4: (30% of final grade) Performance in physical education (coursework) internally assessed.

  • Evaluation and Analysis of Performance for Improvement (EAPI)
