An average Attainment 8 score of 5.5 as well as a Grade 5 in English Language or Literature and Grade 5 in Maths. A GCSE B Grade is also required in the specific Product Design Subject or Art. Candidates will also be required to bring a portfolio of their work to a consultation meeting.

What is Product Design?
Product Design is an exciting, innovative subject which gives you opportunities to experience the design and manufacture of imaginative personalised projects. You will solve real life design problems involving research, designing, modelling and making projects in response to actual design challenges.
Year 1 Course Content
Design and Make Project 1: You will design, make and evaluate a Bauhaus inspired chair for a child. You will experiment with a range of manufacturing techniques to produce their final model.
Product Study: You make design proposals for the development of an existing product.
Core & Resistant Materials: You learn about a range of topics relevant to the world of Product Design and also learn to market new products with detailed study of materials and components.
Year 2 Course Content
Design and make course work project: this provides open ended opportunities for designing and making. You will choose the nature of the task. Designs need to be creative and innovative: You manufacture your idea clearly linking it to possibilities for commercial manufacture.
How will you be assessed?
Two examinations at the end of Year 2 in addition to coursework.
