HACH Merit System

In every lesson and around the academy, HACH staff are on the look out for opportunities to award merits. These are logged on our system so that families and students know when and why they have been celebrated.

HACH Merit Shop

The Character Merit Shop is where our students’ positive choices truly pay off! Every day, students have the opportunity to earn merits by demonstrating our five core character traits: kindness, grit, responsibility, confidence and zest. These merits act as a virtual currency, safely stored in each student’s online account. 

Merits are awarded whenever staff spot students showing their greatness, whether that’s in lessons, around the school building, supporting their peers, engaging with the wider community or simply displaying positive behaviours that reflect our values. The more students demonstrate these traits, the more their balance grows. 

At the end of each term, students can use their merits to shop for exciting prizes in the Character Merit Shop. From small treats to big ticket items like a PlayStation 5 controllers, rewards are carefully tiered to encourage persistence and long term effort. 

This system allows us to recognise and celebrate individual contributions every day, complementing the collective achievements we champion through our house competitions. The Character Merit Shop is not just about prizes, it’s about building character, celebrating success and ensuring every student feels valued for the person they are becoming.
