Biology boost your knowledge in life and living organisms and gain a fascinating insight into Evolution, Gene expression and biological molecules
Biology is a pre-requisite subject for many degrees in Biological Science and Medical related fields of study.
There is 12 weeks’ worth of activities attached.⯠If you want to explore further please see the extension material below.

Task 1:
Make notes with diagrams on the following topics:
- Biological molecules- Carbohydrates, Proteins, Lipids
- Nucleic Acid
- Transport across cell membrane
Each topic should have minimum of 1000 words plus diagrams.
Task 2:
- Perform some detailed research into the following cell organelles. Include annotated scientific drawings of a plant, animal and bacterial cell:
- Nucleus
- Mitochondria
- Chloroplast
- Cell membrane
- Golgi apparatus
- Ribosome
- Endoplasmic reticulum
- Research the following exchange surfaces. Briefly describe how they are adapted to be efficient exchange surfaces. Draw annotated scientific diagrams of these surfaces:
- Lungs
- Liver
- Small intestine
- Research the process of protein synthesis. Create a resource (A3) that details how the process occurs. You should be able to describe what the main characteristics of each stage is.
Task 3:
You will also have to look at the current news and medical articles relating to COVID-19 and link it to one of your A-level topics of -Cell recognition and immune system.
You have to write an essay on-
- What is the cause of Corona disease?
- How is it transmitted? – Link it with different modes of disease transmission.
- How can it be stopped from transmission?
- What can be the cure and how does the B-cells and T-cells play a role.
